The new model is aimed at the core of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) market and will replace the current Land Cruiser Colorado model. The new car will be known as the Toyota Land Cruiser. The larger Land Cruiser Amazon model continues with a revised interior and enhanced level of standard equipment.

Toyota is stressing the new model’s high comfort levels and ‘superb on-road driving pleasure’ in response to changing customer demands.

However, Toyota claims the car is equally at home on and off-road and that the new Toyota Land Cruiser is no ‘soft’ Sports Utility. It retains the traditional 4×4 frame chassis and separate body construction.

More than four million Land Cruisers have been sold worldwide with over 200,000 customers in Europe alone.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser will be available in either three or five-door bodystyles with a choice of petrol or diesel engines and has permanent four-wheel drive with high and low ratios controlled through the transfer gearbox.

The model was designed in Europe at ED2, Toyota’s advanced design facility in the south of France. It is the third Toyota with styling led in Europe (after Toyota Yaris and new Toyota Corolla).
