Of the total, 10,600 were cars (6,400 in 2001), 100 trucks and 300 buses, the head of the machine-building department of the Russian Industry Ministry Nikolay Sorokin said at a press conference in Moscow.
Russian companies produced 5,800 Kia and BMW cars, 2,000 Hyundai and Citroen cars, 1,700 Ford cars, 100 Iveco trucks and 300 Ikarus buses.
Sorokin said foreign and local firms would create several new joint ventures in the near future, beginning with a Volvo truck plant opening in the Moscow region on Thursday.
