Fiat do Brasil will start sales of the model on 14 September. The car is produced in the Betim plant, Minas Gerais state, and has the same design as the European version. However, the Brazilian-made Stilo is the first Fiat’s car in the world to be equipped with the same engine used in General Motors vehicles.

The Brazilian Stilo is fitted with the 1.8-litre 8-valve and 1.8-litre 16-valve engines that are also used in the Brazilian-made Chevrolet Corsa and Meriva. The engines are produced by Fiat-GM Powertrain joint venture company that is a result of the Fiat-GM industrial alliance.

The Powertrain company is responsible for the development of engines and transmissions to GM and Fiat group vehicles.

In Brazil the Powertrain company control two engines and transmissions factories. One of them is in Betim, which produces the Stilo, Corsa and Meriva’s 1.8-litre engines. The other plant is in São José dos Campos, São Paulo state.

The Brazilian-made Fiat Stilo also has an Abarth version equipped with a 2.4-litre engine imported from Italy.

To produce the Stilo model in Brazil Fiat invested about $US 100 million. The automaker expects to produce about 2,400 units per month to supply the Brazilian market. By the end of the year, Fiat hopes to start exporting the Stilo to other South American countries.

Only the five door variant Stilo is made in Brazil. The Brazilian-made Brava continues in production as an entry level car in the medium sized segment. The Fiat Brava will be equipped with a 106 bhp1.6-litre 16-valve engine just for Brazil.
