Chrysler is to hire 200 more people at its Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio to meet demand for the Wrangler off-roader.

The plant currently operates two, 10-hour shifts and there are currrently no plans to add a third shift, because the paint shop is already at capacity, even after a third eight-hour shift is added next month.

Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited production from Toledo rose to a record of more than 200,000 last year with sales in the US accounting for 141,669, up 16% over 2011.

The other assembly operation at Chrysler’s Toledo Jeep complex is currently being prepared for production of the new Cherokee, set to start in late May.
