Nissan’s Infiniti may build a new factory in North America to manufacture vehicles locally.

The company told Bloomberg News: “[Infiniti is] considering a second manufacturing location in North America.”

Nissan officials recently met Canada’s industry minister Christian Paradis to discuss a possible Infiniti plant in the country. Infiniti US unit spokesman Kyle Bazemore said it had not been finalised when and where further production of the brand would be added.

Infiniti relocated its global headquarters to Hong Kong in 2012 and the luxury brand will manufacture vehicles in China from 2014. It aims to reach annual sales of 200,000 units there by the end of the decade. Infiniti has also said it intends to manufacture in the UK for export.

At present Infiniti cars are built in Japan and the US where the JX crossover is built at a Nissan plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.
