According to AFP, Fiat Auto will lay off 5,600 workers on Monday with others leaving early next year.

Citing a union spokesman, AFP said workers from Fiat’s main Mirafiori plant in Turin went on strike for four hours early on Friday and marched to the centre of Turin to protest the plan.

AFP said that workers from the Arese factory outside Milan planned a demonstration later Friday in the city’s main piazza.

In Cassino, north of Naples, Fiat Auto employees blocked access roads to industrial zones, AFP added.
