Mazda has named Ford executive James O’Sullivan president and CEO of Mazda North America Operations, from April 1, 2003, replacing Charles Hughes who resigned on February 27. In his new role, O’Sullivan will be responsible for Mazda’s US and Canadian operations and will be based in the Irvine, California, head office.

O’Sullivan joined Ford in 1976 and has held a number of key roles in the areas of sales and marketing, most recently as Lincoln Mercury’s franchise and business development manager. Prior to that, he served as Lincoln brand manager and his background includes management of regional retail sales, regional operations, advertising and technical training.

O’Sullivan, 50, graduated from the University of Detroit in 1976 and received a master’s degree in marketing in 1984, also from the University of Detroit.
