New car sales in Canada in May hit 185,000, close to the all-time high of 185,470 set in 2007. Forecasts for full year sales have been revised upwards to 1.76m.
May sales were up 5.3% on last year, below April’s 8.9% rise but ahead of the 2.4% year to date growth according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.

Ford remains the market leader; sales of 32,490 were its highest monthly total in 16 years and represented a 0.5% year on year growth.
Chrysler Canada reported its best May performance for 24 years with sales up 12% at 29,249. Sales for General Motors were up 1.6% to 23,654.
Other winners included Toyota (up 12.3% at 22,250); Honda (22%, 16,723) and Volkswagen (5%, 6,315).
Losers included Nissan (down 9.1% at 8,367) and Kia (down 10.7% at 7,558).
