Sales of luxury cars in India are expected to double by the end of the decade increasing market share from 2% to 4% as total industry sales hit 8m in 2020.
Boris Fitz, director, sales and network development for Mercedes-Benz India, said: “The share of luxury cars is far lower than that in China (5%) and Hong Kong (15%). The next 3-4 years will be decisive for India.”

He was speaking at the launch of the new A-Class in India. Mercedes sold 7,138 units there in 2012 and expects a double-digit growth in sales in this year.
Luxury car sales in India have grown in the country, despite a fall in total industry sales. During the January-March 2013 period, Mercedes’ sales grew 5.3% to nearly 2,900 units.
Passenger car sales reached 1.89m units in fiscal 2012-13 with luxury models accounting for 29,000.
