Separate from a dispute with the NHSTA over older models, Chrysler Group is recalling 630,300 newer-model Jeep SUVs, some because of delayed deployment of airbags and others due to the potential of leaking transmission fluid, the company and US regulators said.

About 409,200 2010 to 2012 Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs will be recalled because a software glitch may delay deployment of side airbags and seatbelt tensioners in the event of a rollover, the automaker and regulators told Reuters.

Separately, 221,100 2012 and 2013 Wrangler SUVs with 3.6-litre engines will be recalled because of possible leaking of transmission fluid. Chrysler said a power steering component may rub against a transmission fluid cooling line causing a leak.

No injuries or accidents have been caused by either issue. Of the 630,000 total, about 435,000 were sold in the US, according to the report. Patriot and Compass models involved were built from 6 May, 2008, to 20 July, 2012 while the Wranglers were made from 23 January, 2011, to 23 February, 2013.

Reuters noted Chrysler has until 18 June to respond to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s earlier request to recall 1993 to 2001 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Jeep Liberty SUVs due to a potential fire risk in rear end collisions. Chrysler so far has refused.
