Growth of 18% in the automotive sector helped South Africa’s manufacturing sector grow 7% in April after shrinking 2.2% in March according to Statistics South Africa.
The country’s iron, steel and metal components sector grew 9.2% while the chemical products, petroleum, plastics and rubber sector grew 7.2%.

But the Nedbank Economic Unit sounded a note of caution, pointing out that last year, the Easter holiday fell in April whereas this year it fell over March and April. This meant that there were three extra working days in April this year.
