GM killed Pontiac in 2009, the same year the automaker went into government-sponsored bankruptcy. Reuters noted that, in 2008, over half of the brand’s sales in the US were G6 sedans.

Consumers have also complained about not being able to shift out of ‘park’ and have said cruise control often does not work properly. NHTSA said it had received 314 complaints about the 2005-2008 G6.

GM told NHTSA it had received over 1,100 warranty claims that may relate to the issues alleged by consumers. The company sold over 150,000 G6s in both 2006 and 2007 before sales dropped to about 140,000 in 2008 and 87,000 in 2009.
