Mitsubishi says it will tackle the problems that led to delayed product recalls through an organisation directly answerable to the president.
President Osamu Masuko told the Nikkei newspaper: “We were not rigorous enough to respond immediately. We intend to accelerate the efforts to reform our quality control and information dissemination procedures, as well as our corporate culture overall, through a body under my direct control.”

The recent recall problem involved some 4,300 Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid SUVs after a problem was discovered in lithium ion batteries. The firm received a warning from Japan’s transportation ministry late last year for failing to act swiftly enough.
Masuko also told the Nikkei Mitsubishi intends to resume dividend payments this fiscal year, ending a 15-year hiatus.
He added: “We aim to work toward becoming a company that can generate profits steadily.”
