The introduction of congestion charging in London is unlikely to lift residual values of LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas)-powered vehicles, despite the fact they are exempt from the £5 a day fee, says used car value guide Glass’s.

Although there has been some increased demand for used LPG cars around London, there is no evidence so far of buyers being willing to pay a premium price.

Forecast editor Jason King says: “There may be some ‘regionalisation’ of prices but, overall, residual values remain below those of petrol.

“Many potential buyers still have reservations about LPG, including safety and availability of supply. However, if other cities take up congestion charging, it might change the outlook for values.”
