News of the rise in sales in Europe’s largest national car market comes in the week that economic forecasts for Western Europe were revised down by the EU Commission, potentially weakening the outlook for the region’s car market further in 2015.

October car sales in Germany rose 3.7% on last year to 275,320 units. In the first ten months of the year car sales in Germany stand at 2,556,991 units, some 3% ahead of last year.

The German car market is expected to finish the year at around 3m units. However, analysts are concerned over prospects for the German economy in 2015 amid signs of weaker growth prospects for the eurozone and some turning down of demand in key export markets such as China.

The French car market posted a 4% decline in October.
