China’s JAC Motors on Tuesday (9 July) said it had exported around 57,000 cars to Brazil since launching there (through local distributor Grupo SHC) two years ago.
Sales began on 18 March 2011 with the J3 hatchback line and the automaker shipped 37,800 units that year.

In 2012, the J5 and J6 model lines were added but JAC sold only about 10,000 units in total that year due to the effects of the new IPI tax which favours the local assembly industry by imposing customs duty on assembled vehicle imports.
The smaller J2 hatchback was launched at the end of 2012, as construction began on a local assembly plant due to open in 2014.
JAC said it exported about 10,000 units in total in the first half of 2013.
The sales tally to date is 50,500 units, – 38,000 J3, 6,000 J6, 2,800 J5 and 3,700 J2.
JAC said it was now the top Chinese vehicle importer in Brazil and China’s second largest vehicle exporter.
It now has over 70 sales and service outlets in Brazil.
