Nissan will bring back the Terrano nameplate on a new SUV model, sourced from alliance partner Renault, to help it build market share in India.

Nissan previously built its own Terrano SUV in Spain – sharing the model with Ford Europe – and the company is now embarking on a product blitz in India in a bid to boost its market share from 1% to 10% within the next three years.

Its current Indian line is six models, three produced locally and three imported. The carmaker already sells the X-Trail shipped in from Japan but has decided to add a low-cost product to tap the local popularity of SUVs. It will rebadge the newly redesigned Renault Duster manufactured at the alliance plant in Chennai.

Nissan also plans to release a low-cost hatchback under the Datsun emerging-market brand next year.
