Hyundai and its sister company Kia had an 8.8% share of the global market in the first half of the year, the same level as they had in 2012, according to research firm LMC Automotive.

The two companies sold 3.683m vehicles in H1, up 0.2% on the same period last year.

In 2009, the two had a combined market share of 7.8%, rising to 8.1% in 2010 and 8.6% in 2011.

Global leader in H1 was Toyota with sales of 4.91m followed by General Motors (4.85m) and Volkswagen (4.7m).
