Volkswagen of America has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will be issuing a voluntary safety recall affecting the manual seats on certain 2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta and Passat vehicles.
The recall affects 393 Volkswagen Jetta and Passat vehicles equipped with manual seat back recliners from the 2015 model year. In isolated cases, VW says it is possible that an improperly assembled seatback recliner retaining bracket may not engage properly on manual seats, causing the seatback to shift fore and/or aft with minimal effort. Should this movement occur unexpectedly with the driver’s seat back, it could startle the driver and lead to a collision. If the movement occurs with either driver or front passenger seat, it poses a risk of injury to the seat occupant(s) in a collision.
To fix the issue, authorised Volkswagen dealers will inspect and adjust the bracket in the affected vehicles at no cost to customers.
No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported. Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorised Volkswagen dealer.
