Nissan Motor has begun sales of new vehicles in Myanmar where used vehicles now make up the majority of the market.

The automaker will begin by selling commercial vehicles and keep a close eye on market trends for when it might start selling new passenger cars, the Nikkei reported.

A showroom and a base for car maintenance and repair has been opened in Yangon, the largest city. The base will be used to repair used vehicles and help boost consumer recognition of the Nissan brand, with the showroom serving to promote the Navara line of small pickup trucks and the Urvan line of large commercial vans, the business daily said.

Tan Chong Motor Holdings, a company that makes and sells vehicles for Nissan in Malaysia, has signed an exclusive sales agency agreement to distribute the new Nissan vehicles in Myanmar.
