Japan’s new vehicle sales in July, including minivehicles, fell 8% from a year earlier to 472,111 units, marking the third straight month of decline.
Sales remained sluggish following the ending last September of the government’s subsidy programme aimed at encouraging people to buy environmentally-friendly cars.

Japan Automobile Dealers Association reported sales of new vehicles, excluding minivehicles, dropped 13.5% from a year earlier to 284,314 units.
Sales of minivehicles – those with engine displacements of up to 660 cc – rose 1.7% to 187,797 units, marking the first year on year rise in three months and hitting a record high for the month of July, according to the Japan Mini Vehicles Association.
