Mitsubishi has unveiled its all-new Triton one-ton pick-up truck, one of the company’s best global best-sellers – in Thailand today.

This is the first full re-design in nine years for the model which is built at the Laem Chabang complex’s number two plant. It goes on sale immediately in Thailand and will be rolled out sequentially in ASEAN, Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America, eventually being exported to some 150 countries.

The new model has generous interior space, ample payload capacity, and Mitsubishi claims, class-leading handling. It is available in single cab, double cab and club cab variants, with a three-engine line-up. There are three engines in the Thai market: a new 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel and improved versions of the well-proven 2.5-litre diesel and 2.4-litre gasoline engines.

MMC has been producing pick-ups since 1978, selling over 4m worldwide. Pick-up truck manufacturing focused on Thailand from the third-generation model and the new Triton is the fifth-generation model.

The Laem Chabang Plant is steadily growing into Mitsubishi’s major global production hub. The previous Triton was launched in August of 2005 and has sold a total of 1,260,000 units worldwide as of September of this year.

MMC Chairman and CEO Osamu Masuko described the Triton is “one of our most important products since it contributed the most to our revitalization. Just as the previous Triton did we expect the all-new Triton to continue to be our core model, contributing to improving our corporate value and sustainable growth in the future.”
