Mazda Motor will start selling cars in Cambodia through a local distributor.

The CX-5 SUV and four other models made in Thailand and Japan will launch the brand there, Japan’s Nikkei business newspaper reported.

The move is part of the automaker’s goal of boosting annual sales in Association of Southeast Asian Nations [ASEAN] member states by 50% to 150,000 units by fiscal 2015.

The just-redesigned 3 [Axela] and BT-50 pickup truck will be exported from the Thai joint venture factory with Ford with the CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs and the 6 [Atenza] shipped from Japan. Pre-orders are already being taken.

The Nikkei noted that new car sales are surging in Cambodia where road networks are growing. Last year’s sales tally was 1,550 vehicles, double the 2005 level, according to the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.

After the Cambodian debut, Mazda will have a presence in all 10 of ASEAN’s member countries but Myanmar.
