More than 2,000 workers at BMW’s factory in South Africa have launched industrial action over pay.

The Business Report daily said that the action, which began last Friday, has resulted in lost production of 1,270 3-Series models.

The Rossyln factory outside Pretoria produces 82,000 cars a year with nearly 70,000 exported to countries such as the US, Canada, Japan, UK and Australia.

BMW and trade union officials were not immediately available for comment.
