General Motors is recalling approximately 293,000 Chevrolet Cruze compact cars, from the 2011 and 2012 model years, made in Lordstown, Ohio. The recall is announced as the automaker says that the power brake boosters can fail, and in rare cases it is likely that extra pressure would have to be put on the pedals to stop the car.

The cars are equipped with 6T-40 six-speed automatic transmissions and 1.4-litre turbocharged gasoline engines.
