Maruti Suzuki has added a new model to its range, the Stingray. The 998cc five-door hatchback, which is based on the Wagon R, is aimed at younger buyers.
Over 1.3 million Wagon R models have been sold in India since Maruti’s first generation model entered production in 1999. The current model has been manufactured at the company’s Gurgaon plant in Haryana since 2010. It is a restyled version of the fourth generation Suzuki Wagon R that was first launched in Japan in 2008.

Suzuki launched the Stingray in Japan in 2012, and India’s new car is closely related to that car. The main difference is the 1.0-litre K12 engine for the Maruti-made models, whereas the car built at Kosei in Japan for the domestic market has a 0.7-litre engine. Maruti says it plans to launch a CNG version of the K12 later in 2013.
