Year to date German deliveries have dropped 7% to 1.97m with negative figures in six of the first eight months of 2013.
Analysts said that while the market was showing no signs of a turnaround, it is stabilising while improving business confidence in the German economy could help underpin vehicle demand in the remainder of the year.
Sales in Spain and France fell 18.3% and 11% respectively in August.
