Valeo and Safran have inked a partnership agreement to conduct research in driving aids and autonomous vehicles.
In its initial phase, the programme will focus on four main research areas: driver attention monitoring, using image recognition technology and 360° visibility, featuring imaging technology to produce wrap-around views of vehicle surroundings.

Other areas include visibility in extreme weather, particularly fog and vehicle robotisation/dronisation, to jointly develop certain technologies that will make land vehicles and aircraft more autonomous.
These last two joint projects are more long-term, with completion expected between 2014 and 2016.
The programme is designed to involve research institutes and universities, as well as
SMEs.
