Takata has celebrated the inauguration of its new plant in Ulyanovsk, Russia. Takata says it is reacting to the growing demand from the Russian automotive industry.
Takata has started to supply the Russian OEMs AVTOVAZ, Sollers and GAZ with steering wheels, airbags and seat belts out of this plant. The supply of transplants from western and Asian OEMs are expected to follow soon. The Russian market is driven by an increasing vehicle production volume and by consumers´ growing demand for vehicle occupant safety, which is leading to a higher market penetration of modern safety devices such as airbags and seat belts.

The ceremony was attended by the deputy head of the government of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexander Pinkov, numerous representatives of the Russian automotive industry as well as representatives from the Russian Federation and regional government.
The new plant, located some 875 km away from Moscow, employs more than 300 people.
