New vehicle sales in Indonesia rose by 2% to 77,961 units in August, compared with 76,445 units in the same month of last year, according to industry association Gaikindo.
Month-on-month, the market was down by 31% with vehicle output in the country affected by the Idul Fitri annual holidays. The association expected sales to rebound in September, with factory working hours returning to normal.

Sales in the first eight months of 2013 were up by almost 11% at 792,361 units, compared with 714,217 units a year earlier.
The outlook for the rest of the year is mixed, with the recent central bank interest rate hikes affecting consumer purchasing power. This will likely be offset by the recent launch of Daihatsu and Toyota’s low cost green cars, which will be joined by a Honda model in November.
