Ford says it has now produced its two millionth EcoBoost engine since the powertrain’s global launch in 2009. 

Factory output now averages more than 100,000 engines per month, says the automaker, up from 65,000 in 2012.

“Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving popular with consumers around the world,” said Ford vice president powertrain engineering, Joe Bakaj. 

“EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand every day, and our plants are working hard to keep up with demand.”

Ford doubled Cologne, Germany, production of 1L EcoBoosts to 1,000 engines per day,and is investing US$200m to build 2L EcoBoosts in the US.

For the first time, EcoBoost production is expected to exceed Ford’s global diesel-engine production.
