What NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB) is calling the first ‘pre-series’ Saab model has rolled off the line at the Trollhättan plant.

The car looks identical to the 9-3 sedan which was last made in 2011. It is understood that the car built on 18 September has a turbocharged petrol engine. A plug-in version is reportedly due to be added in 2014.

The silver 9-3 was built to calibrate various production line systems as well as for the testing of new components.

“I am pleased that today we have assembled our first car to verify all the production processes here in Trollhättan. Prior to our decision to start production of Saab cars, we need to finalize a few remaining dialogues to build partnerships with suppliers. We now know that the plant is ready for production”, said Mattias Bergman, acting President for NEVS.
