Kia announced Friday(15/09/00),a voluntary recall of 1998 Sportage sport-utility vehicles to replace the manifold catalytic converter.
A total of 20,439 Sportages will be recalled after Kia discovered that a weld on the manifold catalytic converter could crack. If the manifold catalytic converter cracks, exhaust leakage and noise would occur, and the vehicle would fail a vehicle inspection or a registration renewal emission test. This is not a safety-related recall.
