Auto India says that General Motors India Ltd (GMIL) is likely to introduce Daewoo’s Korean-built mid-sized Nubira in 2003, possibly replacing the current Opel-made Astra.

The Indian-specification Nubira would have a 1.8- litre engine and would be assembled at GMIL’s facility at Halol in Gujarat, a facility. That can make 25,000 cars a year and could be scaled up to 100,000 units per annum.
GMIL has no intention of acquiring the ailing Daewoo Motors India Ltd (DMIL) plant at Surajpur to make its cars, the report said.
The Indian Daewoo plant was excluded from GM’s purchase of Daewoo assets earlier this year.
