The third generation Fit [Jazz] has passed the original as the Honda car with the fastest pace of orders in its debut month.
Honda has received 62,000 orders for the new compact car, on sale in Japan since 6 September, the Nikkei reported, more than four times the company’s monthly sales goal of 15,000. Honda said 57% of these orders are from drivers switching from rival automakers, more than the typical 30-40%.

Seventy percent of the orders are for the hybrid version, which has the world’s best fuel economy – 36.4km per litre. The new Fit is also roomier than predecessors. The model first appeared in 2001 and sells worldwide.
The Fit ranked fourth in Japan’s new car sales table last month. Toyota’s Prius and Aqua [Prius C] hybrids took first and third place, respectively.
