Bridgestone has developed a CAIS (Contact Area Information Sensing) based system that can assess tyre wear and tread depth, Tyrepress reported.

Acceleration sensors that are attached to the inside of a vehicle’s tyres detect bends in the tyre tread during normal driving.

The data collected is then sent wirelessly to the CAIS technology which analyses the data and estimates tread wear conditions and provides real time monitoring of tyre conditions to the driver of the vehicle.
