Indonesia’s new vehicle sales increased by close to 14% to 115,921 units in September, from 102,100 units a year earlier, according to local automotive manufacturers association Gaikindo.
Last month’s data were boosted by seasonal factors, such as last year’s Idul Fitri holidays falling in September. But, after a couple of months of hefty price increases due to the recent depreciation of the rupiah and rising interest rates, underlying demand remains strong.

The association estimated that around 8,500 Toyota and Daihatsu low-cost ‘green’ cars were sold last month, after the Agya and Ayla models finally received approval from the government which qualifies them for tax discounts.
