New vehicle sales in Malaysia jumped by 19.6% to 54,945 units in September, from 45,925 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Light passenger vehicle sales increased by 20.3% to 48,411 units, helped by the availability of new models, while commercial vehicle sales rose by 14.8% to 6,534 units.

In the first nine months of the year, total vehicle sales increased by 6.4% to 487,968 units from 458,471 units in the same period of last year which was a record year for the market.
