Volkswagen’s Audi has opened its EUR34m (US$46m) logistics park at its base in Gyor, Hungary, which will create some 300 jobs and manage 150 lorries a day from suppliers in 30 countries.

Separately General Motors’ Opel has hired 400 new workers at its new engine plant in Szentgotthárd where headcount will rise by another 60 by year’s end and reach 1,000 by 2015, the automaker said.

Opel started production at this EUR500m (US$688m) engine plant in September last year. The company launched a EUR130m (US$178m) expansion at the plant in April and announced in July a further EUR60m (82m) spend.

Production capacity is set to reach 1m units a year by 2015.
