Mazda sales in the US have reached 10m vehicles since the carmaker first started marketing its cars in the country more than 40 years ago.
The company entered the US market with a rotary powered coupe in 1970 and later added sedans and SUVs to its range. The 10 millionth car, a 2013 3, was sold to a customer in Illinois, according to the company.

The 3 and the 6 are among the company’s current mainstay models.
Mazda assembled several generations of MX-6, 626 and 6 models at the AutoAlliance assembly plant in Illinois it operated in a joint venture with Ford but currently imports all US models from Japan.
But it is building engine and assembly plants in Mexico to supply the 2 and 3 to North America from 2014 as well as a derivative of the 2 on an OEM basis to Toyota Motor Sales USA.
