Malaysia’s second national car company, Perodua, reported a 5.7% rise in sales to 147,400 units in the first nine months of 2013, from 139,400 units in the same period of last year.

The company, a joint venture involving Daihatsu and local Malaysian companies, said the introduction of the S-series model in March was key to its improved performance this year. The model accounts for around 48% of monthly sales.

The company expects to comfortably meet its full year target set earlier in the year of 194,000 sales, which would give it a market share of around 31%.
