Hyundai plans to launch its first EV in 2016.
A company official told the Korea Times: “Hyundai’s first pure EV will be a mid-sized sedan. Equipped with improved batteries, enhanced system management and lighter materials, the upcoming model will weigh about 30% less than existing hybrid EVs.”

Batteries will be from LG Chem with whom Hyundai has a supply contract until 2018.
The company’s EV eventually lineup will include an electric sportscar, small sedans and SUVs. Hyundai has a contract with SK Group’s battery affiliate for electric SUVs until 2017.
The automaker plans to offer 12 PHEV models by 2020, up from the current four.
