Car sales in Germany edged up by 2.3% year-on-year during the month of October, according to data released by the KBA trade association.

The KBA said that 265,441 new passenger cars were sold in October. However, cumulative sales for the first ten months of the year show car sales down 5.2% at  2.48m units.

Car sales in Germany were down by 1.2% in September and the German car market is now expected to finish below 3m units for the full year, though it should see some growth in 2014 as economic activity picks up.

The October gain in Europe’s biggest economy will be welcomed by many as another sign of recovery for Europe’s depleted car market.
