NHSTA said that in certain events due to an error in the software, the system might not calibrate correctly, which might create pressure in the braking system. If the pressure builds to a particular point “the vehicle may suddenly and unexpectedly brake hard, and without illuminating the brake lights, increasing the risk of a crash from behind,” the NHTSA added.
The automaker said that no cases of crashes or injuries, due to the issue have been reported yet. Honda said that it will need a new yaw sensor to fix the issue that might not be available till spring 2014. Meanwhile, the carmaker will inform owners of the affected vehicles through mail about the steps they can take to avoid the issue. The automaker further said that once the sensor is available it will notify the owners to take their vehicles to authorised dealers for a repair free of charge.
