Nissan Motor has launched its first Skyline hybrid, as part of a line redesigned or the first time since 2006, and will launch the Infiniti brand in Japan with it.

Combining a 3,500 cc engine and electric motor, the latest Skyline, the 13th generation since its debut in 1957, achieves a fuel efficiency of 18.4km/litre, the highest efficiency level for luxury sedans, according to the automaker.

The company plans to target businessmen in their 40s living in urban areas.

The latest version has been sold in the United States and Canada since this summer as the Infiniti Q50 sedan. It will also be launched under the Infiniti brand in Japan, finally bringing the brand to the automaker’s home market.

The company will continue production and sales of predecessor models with petrol engines, it said.
