A joint venture between Daimler and BYD – Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology (BDNT) – is building up a small dealer network ahead of the launch of the Denza electric vehicle brand in 2014.

The first battery electric vehicle will be launched in April 2014 at the Auto China trade fair in Beijing and the first dealership will open in the city mid year. Further dealerships are planned in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Three dealership companies, Zhongsheng Group, Lei Shing Hong and Pangda Group will be the first to distribute and service the EVs.

BDNT is currently testing pre-production models. Dusty and hot summer testing programmes in south China are done, winter tests begin soon the freezing north east.

Production testing at the Shenzhen plant are under way, too.
