The news agency said the Warrenville, Illinois-based company on Monday announced it has set up a new unit to sell trucks, truck parts and diesel engines to the military.

It will be headed by Archie Massicotte, who most recently was director of manufacturing for the company’s high-profile Blue Diamond joint venture with Ford, Navistar said in a release cited by Reuters.

The news agency noted that Navistar exited the military business in the 1980s in order to concentrate on the production of commercial trucks and farm equipment but has since sold its agricultural business.

According to Reuters, Navistar also said it has a cooperative agreement with Vision Technologies Systems of Alexandria, Virginia, to jointly market and design a re-power system for a high-mobility multipurpose wheel vehicle, better known as a Humvee.

A Humvee that uses one of Navistar’s International 4.5 litre V6 engines and a hybrid electric drive with plug-in power is being displayed at the annual meeting of the Association of the US Army in Washington until Wednesday, Navistar said, according to Reuters.
