Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) chiefs attending the Delhi show were tight lipped over press reports back home in the UK that the company is planning to double the size of its Halewood factory near Liverpool, creating up to 1,500 jobs.

Sources close to Tata Motors-owned JLR reportedly said the company is exploring plans to double the size of the plant by developing on surrounding land although the proposals are thought to be at a relatively early stage.

The move would meet surging demand for the new Range Rover Evoque built at Halewood and follows already announced plans to build a GBP355m engine plant in Wolverhampton and redevelop the ‘original’ Land Rover factory in Solihull.

JLR chief executive Ralf Speth said nothing subject although insiders said that there are no such plans at the moment.

One said: “It’s right to say nothing. There are no plans now but who’s to say that something may happen some time in the future?”
