Volkswagen group marked its 10th year in India with 109.3% growth to sales of 111,623 vehicles across three brands in 2011 compared with 53,341 in 2010. Market share rose to 4.9% from 2.5%.

Last year also saw the Chakan assembly plant in Pune build its 50,000th and 100,000th cars and local content rise from 60% to 73%. Ten new models took the Indian line to 21 and 56 new dealers hiked the tally to 219.

The Volkswagen brand delivered 76,107 cars in 2011, up 151% year on year. Škoda sales rose 49.9% to 30,005 cars and Audi volume was up 83.5% to 5,511.

VW’s local chief, John Chacko, said: “Despite the volatile market condition, [we] achieved a high growth in 2011. The rise in production and sales figures signifies the growing acceptance of the group in the Indian market.”
