Sources in Sweden indicate receivers handling bids for bankrupt Saab will make a decision on any likely winner by the end of February.

The Gothenburg-based administrators are believed to be considering up to five candidates to take over the debt-laden Swedish automaker, including Mahindra & Mahindra, Brightwell Holdings and Youngman, but with 55 lawyers working on the case, could move sooner rather than later to come to a conclusion.

“The receivers say a decision will be made at the end of the month – at least that is something,” the source who is close to the process told just-auto from Sweden.

Reports circulating today (13 February) claim Mahindra & Mahindra is mulling whether or not to drop its Saab pursuit, but the Swedish source noted the Indian manufacturer had appointed lawyers in New York and Detroit to look after its interests.

The receivers – Hans Bergqvist and Anne-Marie Pouteaux – have endured a barrage of criticism in recent weeks concerning their reluctance to talk to the media, but an email sent to just-auto today from their offices, shows they will now hold weekly telephone conferences for half an hour, starting tomorrow.

Calls to the Saab receivers in Sweden today were not immediately answered.
